Pinwheels - Child Abuse Awareness Campaign

Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention and the Planting Pinwheels in Van Zandt County campaign focuses on positive efforts to ensure that all children have the safe, stable, nurturing families they deserve.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic and the social and economic effects, such as loss of income, increased stress related to parental child care and schooling responsibilities, and increased substance use and mental health conditions among adults (10), increase the risk for child abuse and neglect. These pandemic-related risk factors might be tied to the observed increased proportions of ED visits related to child abuse and as families remained in the home it may result in reduced reporting of neglect and child abuse as there is less visibility by community members.

Prior to COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, there were 199 confirmed victims of child abuse in Van Zandt County.

It's heartbreaking to hear so many kids went through such treatment.

Thank you for everyone planting pinwheel gardens and standing with each of these children and calling awareness to stop Child Abuse in our county by planting Pinwheel Gardens in Van Zandt County.
